How refacing works

1. Measure and design. We measure every opening and help you choose door style (shaker, slab, beaded, glass inserts), colour and hardware.
2. Order doors. New paint-grade doors and drawer fronts are made to size (2–3 weeks).
3. Prep the boxes. Face frames and end panels are cleaned, sanded, repaired and sprayed to match. New end panels or island panels and crown can be added.
4. Finish and install. Doors are sprayed in our shop, then hung with new soft-close hinges and your chosen hardware.

Refacing vs. painting: which do you need?

• Paint if the doors are solid and you just want a new colour. Cheapest, fastest. → Cabinet painting
• Reface if the doors are damaged, peeling thermofoil, an outdated style (cathedral arch, raised panel oak), or you want soft-close and modern proportions.
• Replace only if the layout is wrong or the boxes are failing.

Cost

Refacing with painted shaker doors typically runs $7,000–$14,000 for an average kitchen, driven by the number of doors and drawer fronts and the door style. Painting the boxes is included. Compare in the cost guide.

Frequently asked questions

Can you reface only some doors?

Yes. A common approach is replacing damaged doors and painting the rest to match; the new and old doors are indistinguishable once sprayed.

Do you add soft-close hinges?

Yes, standard on refacing projects, and available as an add-on with painting.

How long does refacing take?

About 2–3 weeks for doors to be made, then roughly one week on site.
