How Much Does Cabinet Painting Cost in the Charlotte Area? (2026)

Straight answer from a local cabinet painter: most kitchens in Monroe, Union County and south Charlotte cost $3,500 to $8,500 to have professionally sprayed. Here is what moves the number, what’s included, and how it compares to refacing and replacing. Written by Alicia Slayton, owner of OCD, painting cabinets locally since 2008.

Cabinet painting price ranges (professional, sprayed)

ProjectTypical priceNotes
Bathroom vanity (2–4 doors)$600–$1,200Less when done with a kitchen
Small / galley kitchen (15–20 doors & drawers)$3,000–$4,500
Average kitchen (25–35 doors & drawers)$4,500–$6,500Most Union County kitchens
Large kitchen with island (40–60+)$6,500–$10,000Two-tone islands add a little
Oak grain fill (smooth finish)+$600–$1,500Per kitchen, depends on door count
Paint cabinet interiors+$800–$2,000Most people skip this
New hardware install+$3–$6 per pieceHardware cost extra
Crown moulding, island panels, shelvingquotedSee custom carpentry

These are OCD’s typical ranges for our area and are updated for 2026. National averages published online ($1,000 for “cabinet painting”) describe a DIY-grade brush job, not a sprayed professional finish.

What decides the price

  1. Number of doors and drawer fronts. The main driver. Count them and you can ballpark it yourself.
  2. Cabinet material. Oak needs grain fill for a smooth finish. Thermofoil and laminate need special primers and sometimes repair.
  3. Current condition. Peeling finish, water damage, old DIY paint and heavy grease add prep time (see refinishing).
  4. Colour change. Dark to white takes more coats than white to white.
  5. Extras. Interiors, glass doors, open shelving, island end panels, crown moulding, new hardware.

Is it worth it?

For a solid set of cabinets in a dated colour, painting returns more per dollar than almost any other kitchen update, and it is the first thing realtors in Waxhaw, Weddington and Ballantyne recommend before listing. It is not worth it if the boxes are failing or you hate the layout; then we’ll say so.

How to get an accurate price

Text or email 3–4 photos of the kitchen (wide shots plus a close-up of a door) and roughly how many doors and drawers you have. You’ll get a ballpark the same day and a firm written quote after a short visit. (980) 254-6711 · alicia@organizecreatedecorate.com

Frequently asked questions

Why do quotes from different cabinet painters vary so much?

Prep and product. A $1,500 quote usually means brushed wall paint with minimal prep, which chips within a year. A sprayed finish over bonding primer with cabinet enamel costs more in labour and materials and lasts 10+ years.

Is it cheaper to paint cabinets yourself?

Materials for a DIY job run $300–$600, but it takes most people two to three weekends and the finish is brushed. If you are selling the house or want it to last, professional spraying is usually the better value.
